Derek Paulsen is a Professor of Criminal Justice and Interim Dean of the College of Justice, Safety & Military Science at Eastern Kentucky University.  Paulsen has over twenty publications including three books, the most recent of which is Crime and Urban Planning: Towards Socially Sustainable Communities.  Paulsen is active in research on crime analysis and crime mapping, technology and policing, and the impact of urban planning on neighborhood crime.  He has given over 60 presentations, including 20 invited presentations and received several research grants to develop data analysis solutions to assist in the understanding of crime patterns.  In addition, Paulsen served as the Commissioner of Planning, Preservation and Development for the City of Lexington, KY for 7 years, in which he oversaw 7 Divisions of Government and worked on numerous policy issues associated with neighborhood crime and urban planning.
