Fire Science Online Identifies EKU Among Most Affordable Homeland Security Bachelor's Degrees in the Nation
Fire Science Online – the premier source of fire science and other first response education information – has listed Eastern Kentucky University's College of Justice & Safety as one of the most affordable homeland security bachelor’s degrees in the country.
"High tuition costs is the single most significant barrier to entry for most hopeful college students," said Dan Schuessler, Founder of Fire Science Online. "We wanted to show these young men and women where they can get a high quality homeland security education for less."
EKU's College of Justice & Safety's Homeland Security bachelor’s degree program was established in 2007 in response to the nation’s growing homeland security needs and issues. The degree is designed to instruct students on how to help secure borders, airports, waterways and seaports; prepare for and respond to natural and man-made disasters; provide counterterrorism and law enforcement intelligence support; and employ the latest security technology. The bachelor’s degree, plus minors and certificates, are offered both on-campus and online.
In addition to providing students with a broad understanding of safety and security issues, the Homeland Security bachelor’s degree program focuses on several vital components of the homeland security field:
Critical Infrastructure Protection
Disaster Preparedness and Response
Intelligence Sharing and Analysis
Fire Science Online used the following methodology to identify the schools on the list:
• Offers bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security or comparable program
• Recognized by the Carnegie Classification and NCES
• Four-year colleges only
• Not-for-profit colleges only
• Must be fully accredited
