Dr. Derek Paulsen selected as Dean of the College of Justice, Safety & Military Science

Dr. Derek Paulsen

After an extensive national search, Dr. Derek Paulsen has been selected as the Dean of Justice, Safety, and Military Science.  Dr. Paulsen received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University and came to EKU as an Assistant Professor in 2002.  He moved through the faculty ranks, serving as a program director and as Associate Dean prior to becoming Interim Dean in 2020.   Dr. Paulsen has a strong record as a teacher, scholar, and administrator, while also bringing his experience as Commissioner of Planning, Preservation, and Development for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government to his new role.  Dr. Paulsen will provide stable, capable, and thoughtful leadership to the College of Justice, Safety, and Military Science and is well-prepared to ensure excellence in its academic programs, care for students, and support of faculty and staff.

We congratulate Dr. Paulsen on this new role and look forward to working with him to support the work of the college.
