Senior Wins Study-Abroad Scholarship
Savannah Sublette, a senior criminal justice major from Fulton, Kentucky, has been awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, a highly competitive study-abroad grant that receives thousands of applicants per year.
“We know Savannah is very deserving of this prestigious award and will represent Eastern Kentucky University well in London,” said Randi Polk, assistant professor in the languages, cultures and humanities department.
Named for former U.S. Rep. Benjamin Gilman, the congressionally funded program is administered by the U.S. Department of State. Winners of the scholarship can receive up to $5,000 to study or intern abroad. Sublette won $2,000 for the Fall 2019 semester, which she will spend at London South Bank University.
“Studying abroad has always been a dream of mine. Before receiving the Gilman, I was concerned about how I would pay for that dream,” said Sublette. “Now that I am a Gilman recipient, not only do I have money for the program, but the Gilman network connects you to thousands of opportunities and people through their alumni programs and events.”
